According to longtime family friend Collis Temple Jr., Senator Selders died while attending his son’s football practice. He is survived by his wife, Kendra, and their two sons, who were the center of his life and a constant source of pride.
Senator Selders had experienced health challenges earlier this year after being hospitalized in May with heart-related issues, causing him to miss the final month of the legislative session. Although he briefly returned to the Senate chamber to greet fellow lawmakers, his appearance was limited as he continued focusing on his recovery.
Throughout his time in office, Selders represented a Baton Rouge district that included Louisiana State University, Southern University, and downtown Baton Rouge. He earned respect across party lines for his dedication to serving his constituents and addressing issues that affected families, students, businesses, and local communities. Friends and colleagues have shared heartfelt tributes honoring both his public service and personal character.
Collis Temple Jr. described him as “a good man, one of the best I’ve ever known,” while fellow lawmakers remembered him for his integrity, humility, and willingness to work with others. Senator Regina Barrow, whose neighboring district bordered his, joined many in expressing sorrow over his passing. Larry Selders leaves behind a legacy of public service, leadership, and devotion to his family and community. He will be deeply missed and remembered by all whose lives he touched.
