With heartfelt sadness, the Massillon, Ohio community is mourning the passing of Harry Steven “Big Steve” Sullivan, who died peacefully at his home on July 4, 2026, at the age of 71. His passing has left family, friends, and neighbors reflecting on the life of a man known for his generosity, warmth, and unwavering commitment to those around him.
Born on June 29, 1955, in Massillon, Big Steve was a lifelong resident deeply rooted in his community. He was the son of the late Bernard and Robbie Mae (Broner) Sullivan and a proud graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1974. Over the years, he built a career defined by dedication and hard work, eventually retiring from A.R.E. in 2019 after many years of service.
Big Steve was widely known for his outgoing personality and ability to bring people together. He found joy in spending time with family and friends, attending local events, and sharing meaningful conversations. His presence had a way of making others feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated.
A passionate sports fan, he proudly supported the Massillon Tigers and the Cincinnati Bengals, rarely missing an opportunity to show his team spirit. He was also an active social member of the American Legion, where he built lasting friendships and enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow members.
Beyond his personal interests, Big Steve was deeply committed to helping others. He volunteered at local food banks and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His acts of kindness, both big and small, left a lasting impression on the many lives he touched.
Family was at the center of his life. He is survived by his loving children, Harry Steven Sullivan Jr. and Angela (Ricky) Rohrer; his siblings, Mae (Jeff Blake) Chapman, Rev. Dr. Bernard Sullivan Jr., and Deborah Wheeler; as well as his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to honor his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Robbie Mae Sullivan; his brothers, Gregory A. Sullivan and Timothy Sullivan; and his beloved grandson, David Hoover III.
As the Massillon community grieves this loss, many are remembering Big Steve for the kindness he showed, the relationships he built, and the positive spirit he shared. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the memories that will forever be cherished.
